About us

Challenge

A long time ago, there was a hardworking man and a hard working woman, both in full time jobs. Then the husband was made redundant.  Faced with this new challenge, he decided he'd like to make beer. With no prior experience, he set about learning all he could about brewing. He immersed himself in books, youtube videos, courses and of course some real life market research!
This is why Bragdy Cybi was born! Within our first months of trading, one of our beers, Cwrw' Bae was awarded Great Taste 2 star awards. That's a great incentive to carry on!
We set ourselves the challenge of creating fresh, tasty, craft beer that you will enjoy, both at home and at our tap room.  We want you to be delighted at the growing range and relish the thought of tasting the next release or seasonal batch.

The future

Opening during a pandemic has been a challenge, but one we've met head on. It has given us an opportunity to learn about running a business and find out what you the customer want. We've outgrown this kit and building and can't keep up with demand.

In the first quarter of 2021, we're expanding to a 10 barrel system. We are relocating the production elsewhere in Holyhead, at the same time allowing us to have a bigger shop in the town.

We have secured the building.
The 10bbl brewing system has been ordered.
Drainage, Electrics, Plumbing, Friends with Paintbrushes, Well Wishers and Invested Supporters means we are underway...
2019          0.2 bbl  Brewing System
2020          1.0 bbl  Brewing System & Bottle Shop
2021        10.0 bbl  Brewing System, Bottle Shop & Taproom
2022        We're Open !       and looking for a bigger place.
2023        Got the second Unit next door,  extra 80m²  and a 3rd FV tank.
2024        Green Light given for the HSBC craft beer bar project;  Due to Open 2026 :)
2025        Our Mobile Bar should be up and running for this season.  For events, fairs, markets, weddings etc.

Getting it all together...

Early 2020.
Our 1st commercial premises.
New floor, drainage, electrics, plumbing, lighting.
3 Vessel Brewing Kit, cold room, FVs, chillers....
A small shop is also on the premises.

Mid 2020 - Covid-19
All set up and no where to go!  The support we've had during this difficult time has been amazing.  We've had to buy more fermenters to keep up with demand! Despite the food fairs being cancelled, we were able to sell from our own shop. Often selling out. Doh!

Early 2021 - New x 10 BBL brewhouse and Location
Moving house !   New 100²Mtr  - and a new 10bbl brewhouse being installed this year.
Started brewing on the new kit in June.
We got to open our TAPROOM finally :)  in August 2021.

2022 - OMG
Running out of room already.   Gonna' need a bigger boat !  We secured the lease for the Unit next door,  giving us an extra 80m² floor area.

2023
Purchased a new FV tank (#3) to allow us to make more beer.

2024 - HSBC Project
Work has now started (oct 2024) on the exiting HSBC project in the town centre.  The old bank will become a Craft Beer Bar and a Restaurant, due to open early 2026.

2025 - Mobile Bar
Our van is currently being  converted into a mobile bar, where we'll be able to serve cold craft beer on draft on the road.   Hopefully ready by early 2025 season.

About the name

We are based in Holyhead, on Holy Island, Ynys Cybi in Welsh. Holy Island is off the western coast of Anglesey and the main town of Holyhead has been our home since 2006.

Not only does Holyhead have standing stones, celtic round houses and various burial chambers, but we can also boast our very own Saint,  St. Cybi.

St. Cybi was the son of the King of Cornwall.  Cybi eventually settled on Holy Island in the 6th Century.  He founded a monastery within the three walled remains of the old roman fort.

So we named our brewery Cybi.

Our beers also have a local feel to their names too, with Cwrw'r Bae, Borth, Llan and Dulas - ask us about the background!

Bragdy Cybi, translated means Cybi Brewery,
Bragdy Cybi pronounced loosely as  Brag -dee  Cub -ee
